JAW SURGERY

The orthodontic journey can be a life changing experience and both the patient and the clinician benefit immensely from this experience. Building relationships between the care provider and the patient is vital.

Changing the shape of your face.

Jaw surgery corrects the bite problem and improves the facial structures. Normally braces are on for approximately 12 months and then the surgery is carried out by a maxillofacial surgeon.

Surgical cuts allow the jaws to be moved into the ideal position and then braces are adjusted for another 9 months approximately to give a beautiful dental and facial result.

The hospital stay is usually a few days and then you wear elastics holding the jaws in position for 6 weeks while everything heals. Braces then continue for a few months after the surgery to “detail” the occlusion.
